Shopping Centres

This was one of the first multi use complexes built in downtown Toronto, combining a fifty-one storey residential tower, and a nineteen storey office block, over a three level shopping centre, with a three level subgrade parking garage underlying the entire complex.

The original centre, the structure of which was designed by this office, was built in 1964, and served the region from west Montreal to Cornwall so successfully that it was decided to add a second level in 1981.

This shopping centre, in the core of London Ontario, occupies a site on the north and south sides of King Street. The block on the north side of King Street is entirely new, and contains a three level subgrade reinforced concrete flat slab parking structure, below the two level north portion, of the shopping galleria, with its lineal skylight which is framed in structural steel.

The original two level shopping centre was opened in 1965 with the mall extending between two anchor department stores. In 1986, planning had begun to enlarge the mall by extending it into the former department stores, constructing a new two storey mall area, and a new food court and cinemas complex, all of which was enclosed by new skylights.
